Our Story

Founded on a simple belief: great food has the power to bring people together and transform ordinary moments into lasting memories.

How It Began

Comet-atom started in 2012 when our founder, Marcus Webb, returned to Melbourne after spending eight years working in professional kitchens across Europe and Asia. He had trained under Michelin-starred chefs, managed busy restaurant kitchens, and developed a deep appreciation for diverse culinary traditions.

But something was missing. The joy of cooking, the creative satisfaction that had first drawn him to the profession, had become obscured by the relentless pressure of commercial kitchen life. Marcus wanted to reconnect with the fundamental pleasure of preparing good food and sharing it with others.

He began teaching private cooking lessons from his home kitchen, working with small groups of enthusiastic beginners. The response was immediate and overwhelming. Within six months, demand had outgrown his modest space, and Comet-atom opened its doors in Fitzroy.

What Drives Us

Over the past twelve years, we have taught thousands of Australians to cook. We have catered weddings that guests still reminisce about. We have helped corporate teams bond over shared culinary challenges. Through it all, our mission has remained constant: to make the joy of cooking accessible to everyone.

We believe cooking is not just a practical skill but a form of self-expression, a way of caring for others, and a connection to cultural traditions that span generations. When you learn to cook well, you gain more than the ability to prepare meals. You gain confidence, creativity, and a deeper appreciation for the ingredients that sustain us.

This philosophy shapes everything we do. Our classes focus not on memorising recipes but on understanding techniques and ingredients. Our catering prioritises quality and care over flashy presentation. Our consultations aim to empower you with knowledge you can use every day.
